My opinion

   I understand that certain people believe that cloning can benefit us. One of the ways they believe it could benefit us is that if we clone animals we can start to use the cloned animals as a source of food. However there is no way to prove that it is 100% safe for people to consume the cloned animals. We need to thoroughly evaluate the technology so we can see the long term consequences on the animals produced. But even then we will never be completely sure. One of my other concerns with cloning is that if we continue to clone animals we will one day start trying to clone people. The problem I see with cloning people is if we start to clone people then we will start to view humans as objects that can be changed and designed to have specific characteristics or traits. Reproductive cloning would take away our uniqueness as an individual. Another reason I am against cloning is because it is very unsafe and unpredictable. it is proven that 95% of mammalian cloning experiments have resulted in failure because of miscarriages, stillbirths, and life-threatening anomalies. Their are many experts who believe no clones are ever fully healthy even if they appear to seem fine. In the end there is no way we could clone people without putting the safety of the clone and the women who would bear the clone at risk. I believe each person should be born free to do what they want and be born equal. I recently saw a show were people get their dead dogs cloned so they can bring them back to life in a way. Even though it seems harmless I don't see this being right. I don't like the idea of putting a dog through trying to carry cloned puppies that may or may not survive just because the owner misses their old dog. Yes it is sad when we loose someone we loved but that doesn't mean we try to bring them back in such a way. It worries me that if they are doing this with dogs now then they will try to do it in the future with children who have passed away. The whole idea of cloning it being plants, animals, or humans doesn't sit well with me because of all the complications that comes along with it and just because of how unnatural it is. Just because we can do it doesn't mean we should.
